Yesterday was wash day for me and I deep condition my hair every wash day, once a week. I was unsatisfied with my current DC by As I Am (review coming soon) and I had a tub of Greek yogurt that needed to be used, so I decided to try Kendra's Greek yogurt deep conditioning treatment.
What I Used:
4 tablespoons of yogurt
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
Although Kendra's hair is much longer than mine, I decided to follow her recipe exactly to make sure I had enough. I ended up having half of the mixture left after I used what I needed, so now I will know how to modify the recipe to fit me.
Keep reading to see my experience.
The Application:
For the purposes of this blog post, the application was a bit messy. Yogurt was dripping everywhere due to the water in my hair. The consistency of the yogurt mixture is thick and creamy but once it hits water, it thins out. I applied the mixture from root to tip throughout my entire head of hair. I love to saturate my hair with conditioner so I was very lenient with how much I used. Once my hair was completely saturated, I covered it with a plastic conditioning cap and let it penetrate for 15-20 minutes.
When I took the cap off and felt my hair, it was surprisingly stiff. I was a little skeptical at that point but now, after the entire experience, I'm sure it was that way from the protein in the yogurt. Once I rinsed it out though, my strands were instantly soft, and my curls were defined.
Naked Hair:
These pictures were so fun to look at! I absolutely LOVE this deep conditioner mixture. This will be my new staple deep conditioner. It's amazing. My hair was so easy to comb through when doing my twists, and my hair looked and felt really healthy, clean, and moisturized.
Twisted Hair:
I twisted with my regular staples: Kinky Curly Knot Today and Beautiful Textures Whipped Curl Creme. My twists were supple and shiny. They had lots of movement as well, even after they dried.
Twist-out Results:
My hair loved the Greek yogurt homemade deep conditioner. It was very happy yesterday and when my hair is happy, I'm happy, lol. Thanks again to Kendra for the recipe. Check out her blog here! If any one of you decide to try the recipe, let me know how your hair turns out. Happy hair days to all!

I am so glad that you liked it! It can be messy. What I do now is cover with a plastic shower cap, and wrap a towel around my head turban style. It creates a green house effect from your bodies natural heat and allows the conditioner to better penetrate your strands. Plus it catches the dripping!! I love this treatment. Its so inexpensive to make too! I have no idea why the stiffness takes place.. it happens to me too. And then I rinse and my curls are popping everywhere!
